sea dreams, a new book of poetry by Dr. Roger Weis, has been published and is for sale in the Murray State University Store. Weis is a professor and director of youth and nonprofit leadership at Murray State.
Weis fell in love with the sea when he scraped and painted his neighbor’s hotel, the Summer Sands in Wrightsville Beach, N.C., when he was 14 years old. It was the same year he began writing poetry. His first poem was published in the campus poetry journal, Etc, when he attended Marshall University (MU). Later, he completed undergraduate and graduate degrees at MU and then a doctorate from University of Kentucky. From there he wrote eight books, two of which were national bestsellers.
Constance Alexander, the Distinguished Practitioner in the Teacher Quality Institute at Murray State, and an award-winning poet, playwright and columnist had this to say about his sea dreams. “Like so many of us, when Roger Weis dreams of the sea he is transported to a place and time where anything seems possible, but the land of summer is not without its bittersweet moments. sea dreams is evocative of days riding in a convertible, top down, radio blaring Beach Boys tunes. Loves are won and lost in long walks on the beach, and every sunset is a masterpiece. The memories endure.”
To purchase copies of the book, contact the University Store online at bookstore.murraystate.edu or by phone at 270.809.4388. The book sells for $14 and 100 percent of the royalties go toward charity.
